You know that feeling when the business phone will not stop ringing, appointments fill the calendar, and jobs are completed one after another, whether you’re a one-man operation or leading a team? It’s a rare and powerful season. Clients are not just hiring you—they’re trusting you to solve problems and improve their homes. That trust fuels our businesses and sustains our personal dreams.
After 19 years in business, I woke up one morning overwhelmed with gratitude for the loyalty and support our community has shown Vivid Hardwood Flooring. I felt compelled to give back. So, I announced that we would select one family to receive a complimentary floor refinishing project. I didn’t yet know who it would be.
About a month later, a new client called for an estimate. After we spoke, he told me he couldn’t afford the project but asked if I could guide him so he could do it himself, offering to compensate me for my time. On the way to his home, I realized he might be the family I was waiting for.
When I toured the house, I knew he was the one. Right there in the living room, I told him we would do his floors for free. What he said next gave me chills—he has a family of five, with three young children, and they were struggling to finish the house due to time and money constraints. The floors were the last hurdle before they could move in.
We shared a moment in that living room and settled on a start date. Myself, my son, Maddox, and his best friend, Mason (both part of Vivid Hardwood Flooring) refinished 400 square feet of floors, plus a flight of stair treads, in just a week. We captured it all on video and shared the love on YouTube. Our supplier, Energyst Solutions, even donated all the finish.
When we did the final walkthrough with the family, I knew this was just the beginning. This is the first of many “Giving Back” projects. The joy of giving like this is unparalleled. I don’t have vast wealth, but I have a drive—and we made it happen.
My goal is one project a year, because I believe goodness is essential in this world. And for me, this is my way to contribute. Maybe it sparks a ripple—an inspiration for others to do the same.
Lead with kindness. You never know who you might inspire.
