AGC Report Finds Federal Funding Gap Between Workforce Training and Degree Program Investments

Only one-fifth of federal workforce funding goes toward investments in workforce development, making it hard for employers in construction and manufacturing to find qualified workers, according to a report from the Associated General Contractors of America and Procore.

The report found $28.2 billion of the $139.5 billion the federal government spends annually on postsecondary education goes toward workforce education and training programs. The majority of the money is invested in degree programs.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 338,000 job openings for the construction industry in March.

Lack of investment in construction job training is making it hard for employers to find qualified workers to fill open jobs and keep up with demand, the report states.
