Trick of the Trade: Getting Those Glued Wood Vents to Pop Right Out

This issue’s tip is from Lorie Davidson at Davidson Wood Flooring in Dahlonega, Ga.:

Here’s an easy solution for the times when some moron has glued a wood vent into a floor with water-based finish. Just insert razor blades into the seams that are stuck and tap them down until they hit the tongue. Usually one razor blade on each corner and one at the back will do. Then put a small pry bar under the center of the grill at the top and rotate it toward you, and the vent should pop right out—you don’t have to fight with it, and you don’t have to bother scoring everything with a razor knife:
