Spontaneous Combustion From Floor Staining Rags Causes Ohio House Fire

A house was set ablaze in Parma, Ohio after rags used for floor staining spontaneously combusted, according to Parma Fire Department.

The house caught fire around midnight June 28 when no one was home.

The fire department said a firefighter was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Cleveland 19 News reported the house was destroyed in the fire.

Parma Fire Chief Mike Lasky said in a statement that any solvents, finishes and oils used for floor refinishing and stripping should be stored outdoors in a closed metal container to prevent accidental fires.
