Wood Floor Trend Spotting: Hawaii Residents Get ‘Island Feel’ With Acacia Floors

As22 Trend HeadshotAcacia is a popular flooring choice in Hawaii, largely due to its similarity to the island’s native koa wood, says Paul Didok of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii-based Floor Expert LLC. Acacia is a more affordable option compared with koa, which is used in furniture and cabinets, Didok adds: “It’s pretty much a status if you have something in koa in your home.” Didok says he replaces a lot of old bamboo floors with acacia these days. “Acacia is pretty much what about 70% of our customers are looking for to give their space that ‘island feel,’” he says.
